Big Ten Roundup (Aug. 17): Purdue Lands 3-Star Quarterback, Ohio State QB Battle Update

In this story:
Sawyer Anderson, a three-star quarterback from Dallas, Texas, in the class of 2025, committed to coach Ryan Walters and the Purdue Boilermakers on Tuesday.
Anderson is Purdue's second commit in the class of 2025, and a big get for Walters, who hired Graham Harrell as the team's offensive coordinator this offseason. Harrell starred in the air raid offense at Texas Tech under the late, great Mike Leach, and he is expected to run a similar offense in West Lafayette.
Purdue wasn't the only school with quarterback news, though. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said to media on Monday that he had wanted to name either Kyle McCord or Devin Brown the starting quarterback by this point in the preseason, but that he wasn't able to do so just yet.
Here's everything you need to know in today's Big Ten Roundup:
Sawyer Anderson Commits to Purdue
Walters has wasted no time restocking the quarterback cupboards at Purdue since he was hired this offseason.
The Boilermakers graduated the program's sixth all-time leading passer in Aidan O'Connell, and immediately Texas transfer Hudson Card was brought in to replace him. Card has the starting gig locked down for the next two (maybe even three) years. But whenever his run is over, Anderson will be one of the quarterbacks in place behind him, ready to compete for the job.

Anderson joined three-star EDGE Keylan Abrams (who is also from Texas) as the second commit in Purdue's class of 2025. According to 247 Sports, Anderson had offers from several other Power 5 schools, including Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Miami, TCU, North Carolina and Arizona State.
The 6-foot, 180-pound passer from Parish Episcopal School is rated as the 33rd-best quarterback in the class of 2025, and the 62nd-overall best player from the state of Texas in the class, according to 247.

Ohio State QB Battle Update
Most teams around the Big Ten would kill to have the unreal wealth of talent the Buckeyes have at almost every position, including quarterback.
Still, it's worth monitoring the festering doubt in Columbus. Day has not yet named a starter between McCord or Brown, and on Monday he said he had hoped to do so by this point in fall camp practices.

"I don't think it's right now we have two guys who are just blowing it out of the water and you're like 'Oh my God, I don't know who's gonna play,'" Day said. "But it's also not like they're not doing well either... now, we're just looking for the consistency."
