Purdue Beats Jacksonville: Boilermakers' Win Had Almost Everything

Purdue cruised to a 100-57 win over Jacksonville on Thursday night. The Boilers' victory had nearly everything, including a Zach Edey 3-point try (kind of), Matt Painter antics and a great quote from Lance Jones.

It's not often that you take much away from the No. 1 team in the country pummeling a mid-major opponent. But Purdue's 100-57 victory over Jacksonville before the Christmas break had everything. Well, almost everything.

For the first time this season, the Boilermakers hit the century mark. They had exceeded 90 points on four previous occasions but had yet to hit triple digits.

The way Purdue got to 100 was perfect, too. A no-look pass from Carson Barrett to seven-footer Will Berg with 44 seconds to play was a thing of beauty.

Earlier in the game, Zach Edey attempted his first 3-pointer of the season. Kinda. When the big guy's shot went up, it appeared that he was behind the arc, with Purdue fans holding their collective breath, hoping they'd witness history.

Unfortunately for the Boilers, the shot clanked off the rim. The good news? Technically, Edey still hasn't missed a 3-point attempt. Upon further review, Purdue announced that his shot was actually a long 2-point field goal.

Edey had the perfect response, saying on X, "Still haven't miss a three in my career."

A total of 12 Boilermakers scored in the game, led by Edey with 18. Lance Jones added 16, Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 15 and Myles Colvin gave Purdue 11 off the bench.

Two of Colvin's 11 came off this electric jam.

When the final buzzer sounded, Purdue walked off the floor with its 34th consecutive regular season victory over a non-conference opponent and improved to 11-1 overall on the season.

But the fun didn't end there.

After the game, Purdue coach Matt Painter was captured on camera giving former Boilermaker and current Big Ten Network analyst Raphael Davis a hard time. It was a tremendous ending to Thursday night's game.

Purdue isn't just winning games right now, it's having a lot of fun on the floor. After the game, Jones provided an awesome quote to sum up why the Boilers are having so much success.

"I think, right now, we just love each other. It's as simple as that," Jones said. "We love being around each other on and off the court. And when you build those kind of bonds in a short amount of time, the team is just able to take it to a different level."
