Indiana Football Week 5 Injury Report Against Maryland

Indiana listed seven players out in the pregame injury report against Maryland, including quarterback Dexter Williams II, wide receiver E.J. Williams Jr., cornerback Jamier Johnson, running back Josh Henderson, offensive lineman Max Longman, linebacker Jackson Schott and tight end Bradley Archer. Indiana listed cornerback Nic Toomer, offensive lineman Bray Lynch, wide receiver Donaven McCulley, safety Louis Moore and tight end James Bomba.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — In the pregame injury report before Saturday's 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff against Maryland, Indiana listed seven players out and five as questionable.

Out

  • #5 Dexter Williams II, quarterback
  • #7 E.J. Williams Jr., wide receiver
  • #9 Jamier Johnson, cornerback
  • #26 Josh Henderson, running back
  • #37 Jackson Schott, linebacker
  • #60 Max Longman, offensive lineman
  • #82 Bradley Archer, tight end

Questionable

  • #1 Donaven McCulley, wide receiver
  • #15 Nic Toomer, cornerback
  • #20 Louis Moore, safety
  • #48 James Bomba, tight end
  • #74 Bray Lynch, offensive lineman

As expected, Dexter Williams II remains out as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered in the 2022 season finale against Purdue. Redshirt freshman Tayven Jackson remains Indiana's starting quarterback.

E.J. Williams Jr. is out for the third consecutive week. He suffered what appeared to be a hand injury against Indiana State, as he's been seen with a brace on his right hand. Williams' absence might be felt even greater this Saturday against Maryland with Donaven McCulley listed as questionable. McCulley has the third-most receptions and receiving yards of any Indiana player this season, trailing only Jaylin Lucas and Cam Camper.

Jamier Johnson has had up-and-down availability to say the least. The Texas transfer played against Ohio State before leaving with an injury. He then missed the Week 2 matchup against Indiana State, but played against Louisville in Week 3, only to again miss Week 4's game against Akron. Johnson will be out again this Saturday in College Park.

Henderson's absence was a surprise in Week 4, but expected entering Week 5. Indiana still has two talented running backs in Lucas and Christian Turner, though the Hoosiers struggled in pass protection against Akron without the steady play of Henderson in the backfield.

James Bomba was out last week against Akron, and is questionable to play against Maryland. IU could really need him today with Bradley Archer, the leading pass catcher at the tight end position for the Hoosiers this season, inactive for Saturday. If Bomba ends up seeing limited playing time, one could expect to see more play from tight ends Aaron Steinfeldt and Trey Walker.

Right guard Max Longman was injured against Louisville and missed the game against Akron, and will be out again today against Maryland. Fellow offensive lineman Bray Lynch is once again listed as questionable, but Matthew Bedford is fully cleared from the injury report. Expect to see him on the field again.

Nic Toomer is listed as questionable for the second game in a row, and safety Louis Moore has also been listed there as well. Moore would be a huge loss for the Hoosiers if he is unable to go. The veteran safety is second on the team in interceptions, scored a pick-six against Akron last week and has been one of the team's highest-graded players on Pro Football Focus.
