Only a high school sophomore, plenty of time remains for Andrew Lovett to choose a college. When he does, Iowa Football could find itself in the mix if first impressions mean something.

The Hawkeyes received a positive review from 2025 Blue Island (IL) Eisenhower High Athlete Andrew Lovett when he attended their Junior Day on Sunday.

"Iowa could be a good fit for me because they focus on making sure their players get their degree and have something to do once football comes to an end," Lovett told HN.

He now has the opportunity to attend Iowa after the program offered him a scholarship during his visit.

"The coaches were basically saying I filled all the boxes in a recruit that they're looking for," he said.

Lovett (6-2, 170) saw some of what he seeks in a program during his Iowa stop. He embraces the football approach.

"What stood out to me on the visit was how they break down the defense and personnel for the defensive backs. That helps in reading the plays easier," he said.

Miami (Ohio), Louisville and Northwestern will play host to Lovett on upcoming campus visits. He plans on setting up more stops beyond that.

He can compare what he experienced at Iowa with other schools around the country after Sunday. The bar is high.

"I feel that Iowa is an awesome place," he said.

Lovett reports additional scholarship offers from Tennessee, Louisville, Missouri, Syracuse, Akron and Ball State. Wisconsin is showing interest in him.

He played 10 games on the varsity as a freshman in '21 and competed in all nine of his team's contests this past Fall. In his first year, he recorded 41 tackles, while piling up 50 this past season. He's totaled 6.0 tackles for loss, a sack, caused two fumbles and defended a pass.

Lovett averaged 30.2 yards on six kick returns and 17.8 in returning five punts. In two seasons on offense, he's rushed five times for 35 yards and a touchdown, and adding 14 catches for 198 yards and a score.
