Iowa's known verbal commitments in the Class of 2025 increased by one on Saturday. Oswego (IL) High linebacker Carson Cooney announced he was pledging to the Hawkeyes.

Cooney joined Pleasant Valley lineman Joey VanWetzinga, Sycamore (IL) High defensive back Burke Gautcher and Fort Wayne (IN) quarterback Jimmy Sullivan in Iowa's '25 group. He visited the program for a game day back in October. The Hawkeyes offered a scholarship at that time.

Oswego High also sent Iowa recently-graduated defensive tackle Noah Shannon. He played for head coach Brian Cooney, Carson's father.

Carson also reported scholarship offers from Iowa State, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Wisconsin and others. He visited Iowa State, Illinois, Northwestern and Wisconsin.

Cooney (6-3, 225) shines during his junior highlight video. He moves very well sideline to sideline and plays physical football.

Rivals and 247Sports rank Cooney as a three-star prospect. 247 rates him as the No. 16 player overall in Illinois for '25 and the 48th best linebacker nationally in the cycle.
