Chima Chineke traveled from his home in Texas to Iowa this Spring to visit the Hawkeyes and take in a workout. The junior defensive end was glad he did.

They offered him a scholarship during the stop late last month. He witnessed what it would be like on the field at Iowa.

"I saw how intense the practices were and the energy all the players and coaches were bringing," he told HN. "It really made everything more competitive, and I loved it."

Chineke (6-5, 230) recorded 6.5 sacks and 5 hurries as a junior, according to MaxPreps.com. He registered 31 tackles (25 solo, 2.5 for loss) and a pass-defended.

The Hawkeye coaches saw his potential.

"They really liked my film, my size, length, and athleticism. They also saw how much I can improve to play at the next level and how good I can become under their coaching," he said

Chineke also reports a scholarship offer from Texas Tech. Kansas State, Oregon State, Arkansas, Colorado and others are showing interest in him.

He could see himself at Iowa.

"I think I can be a good fit at Iowa because I'm a hard worker, and I'm never satisfied with how I am. I constantly want to get better. After talking with coach (Kelvin) Bell, I feel like that's what they're looking for," he said.

On3 sees Chineke as a three-star prospect. He awaits rankings from Rivals and 247Sports.

Chineke is navigating his recruitment process deliberately. He's building relationships with schools and coaches.

"The remaining steps are, obviously, see what other offers I can pull in, take my visits as they come, hope to be back in Iowa over the summer, and try to finalize my recruitment and where I want to go before senior year," he said.
