Sincere Harris' recruitment is just getting started. Following a weekend campus visit to Iowa, the high school freshman has a reference point for the process.

"The facilities were amazing," Harris told HN. "The coaches are great, too. They're down to earth. I look forward to developing relationships with coach (Phil) Parker, coach (Seth) Wallace and coach (Kelvin) Bell."

The Blue Island (IL) Eisenhower High ninth-grader spoke with Parker, the Hawkeye defensive coordinator, Wallace, who recruits his area, and Bell, the defensive line coach.

"Me and coach Wallace really talked about how he likes my personality and likes things he is hearing from my coach. He told me to keep working hard," Harris said

As a freshman, Harris totaled 47.0 tackles, 30 of which were of the solo variety. He also racked up 4.0 sacks.

His highlights from this past fall show an active defensive end that's advanced in the way he plays the game. He sets the edge first and then pursues the ball with his head up, showing an impressive burst when closing on the carrier.

While he has a lot to learn about what he wants from a college football program, Harris (6-1, 215) sees the Hawkeyes boasting traits he likes.

"They have a winning tradition, and they play tenacious defense," he said.

Harris reports that he's hearing from most of the other Big Ten programs already. He's set to visit Miami (Ohio) on March 5.

With three-plus years of high school remaining, Harris still is considering a college major.

"I'm only a freshmen, so I'm still figuring that out. In school, my favorite subjects are algebra and geography," he said.
