Louisville to Face NC State in ACC Tournament Opener

The Cardinals open postseason play on Tuesday, Mar. 12.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With the conclusion of the regular season following Saturday's slate of games across the Atlantic Coast Conference, the bracket for the league's men's basketball tournament is now officially set.

Sporting a conference record of 3-17 (8-23 overall) to clinch the No. 15 seed for the ACC Tournament, Louisville will open postseason play against 10th-seeded NC State. Tip-off scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 12 at approximately 4:30 p.m. EST on the ACC Network.

In Louisville's lone matchup with NC State this season, they suffered an 89-83 loss back on Jan. 13 to kick off a six-game losing streak. The Cardinals had five players score in double figures, but allowed the Wolfpack to shoot 48.4 percent from the field.

Year two under head coach Kenny Payne has been nothing short of another tremendous disaster. Not only did Louisville secure dead last in the ACC standings for the second year in a row, the Cardinals have clinched back-to-back 20-loss seasons for the first time in program history.

Since joining the league in 2014-15 season, this is Louisville's third time playing on the first day of the ACC Tournament, having also done for the last two seasons. The Cardinals are just 3-7 in the ACC Tournament, and have not advanced past the quarterfinal round.

The ACC Tournament is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Mar. 12 at 2:00 p.m. EST with (MATCHUP). The first round will be televised on the ACC Network, with the second round, quarterfinals and semifinals airing on ESPN and ESPN2. The ACC Championship will take place on Saturday, Mar. 16 at 8:30 p.m. EST on ESPN.
