Report: Louisville Adds Road Matchup vs. DePaul to 2023-24 Schedule

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men’s basketball program has added a road matchup with DePaul to their 2023-24 schedule, and will square off on Saturday, Dec. 9, according to a report from CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein.
This will be the return game of a home-and-home series that was scheduled prior to the 2021-22 season. The Cardinals fell to the Blue Demons 62-55 at the KFC Yum! Center back on Dec. 10, 2021 to snap a ten-game win streak in the series, and the road leg of the home-and-home was originally scheduled to take place this past season. Louisville holds a 38-22 advantage in the all-time series, and has won 23 of the last 26 games.
DePaul had a massive second half slump in their second year under head coach Tony Stubblefield. The Blue Devils started the 2022-23 season at 9-10, including wins over Villanova and Xavier, but then lost their final 12 games of the regular season. They took down Seton Hall in their Big East Tournament opener, only to fall to Xavier next to finish their season with a 10-23 overall mark.
This is the fourth known non-conference opponent that Louisville will face in the 2023-24 season. They will host Kentucky on a yet-to-be-announced date, and play two games in Madison Square Garden on Nov. 19-20 for the Empire Classic in a field that includes UConn, Indiana and Texas. The Cardinals will also play a yet-to-be-named opponent as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge, an event that replaces the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Louisville will be looking for a massive rebound in their second year under head coach Kenny Payne. During his first season at the helm, the Cardinals went just 4-28 overall and 2-18 in ACC play, setting a new program record for most losses in a single season.
