LOUISVILLE, Ky. - At long last, game week is here for "The Ville." Following a previously failed attempt in 2021 to get a team for The Basketball Tournament, or TBT, the Louisville men's basketball alumni team is finally set to lace 'em up in the 2023 iteration of the 64-team, $1 million winner-take-all tournament.

The Ville has no shortage of former Cardinals, with several of the most notable from the late-2000's onwards taking part. Russ Smith, Peyton Siva, Kyle Kuric, Luke Hancock, Wayne Blackshear, Chane Behanan, Steven Enoch, Rakeem Buckles and Dillon Avare headline a stacked playing roster, while former UofL assistant coach Mark Lieberman is serving as the head coach.

They'll have a tall task right out of the gates, as The Ville will be taking on "War Ready" for their first round matchup. The Auburn men's basketball alumni team features several players from Auburn's 2019 Final Four team, such as starter Malik Dunbar, and were able to pull off an opening round upset over WoCo Showtime in last year's TBT.

The Ville is serving as a host to one of TBT’s eight regional locations, with play taking place at legendary Freedom Hall. Eight teams will compete in the Louisville Regional, with the regional champion advancing to the quarterfinals. One of TBT’s quarterfinals games will also take place at Freedom Hall, with the winner moving onto the TBT semifinals in Philadelphia.
