LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After surviving an upset bid from Drake in their NCAA Tournament opener, the Louisville women's basketball program now faces Texas with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen on the line.

The fifth-seeded Cardinals went toe-to-toe with the 12th-seeded Bulldogs all game long, and needed a clutch performance from Hailey Van Lith to push them over the top. The guard logged a game-high 26 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter and 11 of Louisville's final 12 points in a thrilling 83-81 first round victory.

As for the fourth-seeded Longhorns, who are hosting the four-team pod, they had minimal trouble against 13th-seeded East Carolina in their tournament opener. They held the Pirates to just 17.9 percent from the floor while shooting 54.0 percent themselves, cruising to a 79-40 win

This will be only the fourth ever meeting between Louisville and Texas, with the Longhorns holding a slim 2-1 advantage in the all-time series. However, it was the Cardinals who came out on top when these two teams faced off early in the regular season as part of the Battle 4 Atlantis, with then-No. 6 Louisville pulling off the 71-63 upset over then-No. 3 Texas back on Nov. 20, 2022.
