Louisville Races Past Bucknell to Cap Off Homestand

Four Cardinals finished in double figures.

Press Release from the University of Louisville:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 19/15 University of Louisville women's basketball team (4-0) notched a 77-44 win over Bucknell (1-3) on Sunday afternoon inside the KFC Yum! Center.

Louisville was led by Sydney Taylor's Cardinals career-high of 17 points on 7-for-15 from the field while adding two rebounds and two steals, as she reached 1,500 points in her career. Taylor has scored in double figures in three of the Cardinals four games this season and has led the team in scoring in each of those three games. Olivia Cochran and Nyla Harris joined Taylor in double figures, with the former recording 11 points, eight rebounds, and three steals and the latter tallying 10 points, six rebounds, a block, and a steal. Eylia Love was the fourth Cardinal in double figures with 10 points and team-best four steals. Hennie van Schaik also totaled her Cardinals career high in points, with all seven coming in the final frame.

It was a competitive first quarter to begin the afternoon, as Cochran's six points, two rebounds, and 4-for-4 free throw shooting helped the Cardinals go into the second frame with a 22-18 lead.

The Cardinals gained some separation in the second quarter, as a 7-0 run put Louisville in front 31-18. Eylia Love's six points and two rebounds in the frame helped the Cardinals maintain the lead and go into halftime up 37-24.

Louisville began the third frame just like the second, with a 12-2 run that put the Cards in command at 49-26. Taylor was scorching hot in the quarter, scoring 12 of her 17 points on 5 for 8 shooting from the floor as Louisville led 57-31 going into the fourth.

The Cardinals allowed just six points in the second quarter and seven points in the third quarter as they extended their lead. It is the second-straight game the Cardinals have limited their opponent to single-digit points in two quarters. So far through four games, the Cardinals have limited opponents to single-digit quarters six times.

In the final 10 minutes of action, van Schaik hit two threes to help the Cardinals stay in control as Louisville won the quarter 20-13 and closed out the 77-44 win.

The Cardinals will hit the road and head down to Texas for the Van Chancellor Classic this upcoming week. The event will be held at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas, and it begins on Friday, November 24. The Cardinals begin the tournament against Alabama and will also face Liberty and Gonzaga over the weekend. The Cardinals open the tournament against Alabama on Friday with tip set for 12 p.m. ET.
