Watch: Louisville's Mark Ivey, K.J. Cloyd Talk Spring Practice

The Cardinals are almost a month deep into spring ball.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - It's been an offseason of change for the Louisville football program. The Cardinals in the midst of transitioning to a new era with head coach Jeff Brohm taking over, and the coaching change has brought forth roster upheaval both with the players and the coaching staff.

One constant, at least with the coaching staff, is Mark Ivey. He is the lone position assistant holdover from the Scott Satterfield era, and had joined him from his jump from Appalachian State to Louisville in 2019. But when Satterfield took the Cincinnati job earlier this offseason, Ivey opted to stay behind.

"It's been a bit of a whirlwind, no doubt, but it's been really good," he said. "You're learning a new defense on top of new position, which has been awesome. It expands everything and what I can hold on to, which has been great."

He had previously been the defensive line coach for the past four years, but now oversees the linebacking corps for the Cardinals. With Louisville roughly a month into their first spring practice period under Brohm, that position group has been hard at work impressing for the new staff

"It's been great," linebacker K.J. Cloyd said. "We've got a lot of new things, new coaches, new people. The biggest thing for us is, everybody's coming together to make everything work. We just all want the best for each other."

Following Wednesday's practice, Ivey and Cloyd took time to meet with the media. They discussed spring practice up to this point, Ivey's decision to stay in Louisville, Cloyd's elevated leadership role, and more.
