Watch: Mark Ivey, Louisville LBs Talk Start of Fall Camp

In this story:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - We're now under a month until the Louisville football program kicks off their upcoming 2023 season, and are also one week into their preseason fall camp, which kicked off this past Tuesday.
One of the bigger storylines as the Cardinals head into year one of the Jeff Brohm era is their perceived lack of depth at the linebacker position. While we are just four days into fall camp, there have been solid performances from this group so far.
"I think we're continuing to improve," linebackers coach Mark Ivey said. "We we definitely made strides throughout the spring. You're learning a new defense and, it's a different group of guys. There's been some transition and changes with the guys, so what you got to do is just keep training, and keep learning, and keep working with the guys that are here.
"I think right now, they are doing well. Are we anywhere near where we need to be? No, we've still got quite a ways to go. But things are looking better and better every single day."
Gone are guys like Yasir Abdullah, Monty Montgomery and MoMo Sanogo, who were some of Louisville's top defenders from last season. This is paving the way for guys like T.J. Quinn, Jaylin Alderman, Jackson Hamilton, Stanquan Clark and Oregon transfer Keith Brown to step up in their place.
"The linebacker group, specifically, is performing a high level," Hamilton said. "There's still some things we need to work on, but we just got to keep pushing every day, just keep grinding, keep chopping wood. For the defense as a whole, I feel like everything is falling into place. We're still learning the scheme just because it's new, but I feel like we're going do some big things this year."
Following the Cardinals' fourth practice of fall camp on Friday, Ivey, Alderman and Quinn took time to meet with the media. They discussed how the position had progressed over the offseason, the role of Keith Brown, the adjustment between defensive schemes and more.
