Highlights & Evaluation: Louisville OL Commit Jimmy Williams

Louisville Report breaks down 2024 Louisville football offensive line commit Jimmy Williams

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville football program has landed their second offensive lineman in their 2024 class, as Jimmy Williams has committed to the Cardinals.

Here is Louisville Report's full evaluation:

Prospect: Jimmy Williams
Position: Offensive Tackle
Vitals: 6-foot-4, 290 pounds
School: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage
Top Offers: Appalachian State, Duke, Pitt, Syracuse, UCF
247Sports Composite Rating (Nat'l Rank): N/A

Jimmy Williams' Junior Year Highlights: HERE (Hudl)

Frame: Good overall frame by lineman standards. Will need to add some lower body weight, but not much. Has an average/above average wingspan.

Athleticism: Has an incredible amount of upper body strength. Williams is pretty mobile and agile for a bulky tackle, and carries a lot of strength/driving force with his legs.

Instincts: Williams is a hulking, imposing figure across the line of scrimmage, and he plays like one. He regularly drives blockers downfield to either forcefully open up a hole or rushing lane, or negate them from the play all together. It also helps that he does a good overall job of dictating the leverage once he initiates the block, even when he runs into secondary or counter moves from defenders.

Polish: Considering the upper body strength he possesses, Williams has good grip strength in his hands, not to mention his hand placement/technique is fundamentally sound. While he is a better run blocker than pass blocker, Williams does demonstrate solid overall footwork in pass protection, and doesn't let defenders get by very easily. He can be somewhat inconsistent with actually locking up on blocks, especially in pass pro, but that can be fixed.

Bottom Line: When everything is said and done, Williams could go down as one of the more underrated prospects in Louisville's 2024 class. His efforts in pass protection need to be shored up a bit, considering he's going to a pass-heavy system, but film doesn't shown any glaring concerns. Not to mentions he's already an excellent run blocker. He could be in for a massive ratings boost over the summer.
