LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville football program has dipped back into the transfer portal to land a big time commitment at a position of need.

Mark Redman, a tight end who spent the last two years of his collegiate career at San Diego State, announced Tuesday that he has committed to play his final season of eligibility with the Cardinals.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound pass catcher has been one of the best tight ends in the Mountain West since transferring to the Aztecs, being named a Second-Team All-Mountain West in each of his two seasons with SDSU. He is coming off of the best season of his career, catching 37 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Aztecs in all three categories.

The year before in 2022 as a junior, he logged 21 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns. He spent the first two years of his collegiate career with Washington and played in 16 games, but logged just one catch for five yards during his sophomore campaign with the Huskies.

Landing Redman is a much needed boost at the tight end spot, as the Cardinals were not able to get much production out of the position until the end of the season. Louisville does bring back Nate Kurisky, Duane Martin and Jamari Johnson, but this trio combined for just 18 catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Redman is the fourth player to transfer to Louisville in this cycle, joining quarterback Tyler Shough, defensive tackle Thor Griffith and offensive lineman Jonathan Mendoza. The Cardinals have also seen eight players enter the portal since the winter transfer window opened last Monday.

He is expected to sign on Dec. 20 for the first day of the early signing period. Louisville went 10-2 during the regular season with a berth in the ACC Championship Game under first year head coach Jeff Brohm, and are preparing for their Holiday Bowl matchup with USC on Dec. 27.
