Watch: Garrick McGee, Louisville's WRs Talk Spring Practice

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - It's well known at this point that the current coaching staff for the Louisville football program has a lot of previous ties to both the program and community. Head coach Jeff Brohm and most of his position assistants have either previously played for, coached for, or grew up in Louisville.
One such assistant is wide receivers coach Garrick McGee, who came over the Cardinals from Purdue with Brohm. McGee previously coached under head coach Bobby Petrino during his second stint with the program, and was their associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2014 to 2015.
"I had no transition at all," McGee said. "I know my way around this place. I love this place. Our head coach, obviously, is all a part of this. So I didn't have any transition."
McGee is inheriting a position group that has a lot of new faces, as Louisville feature a wide receiver room with seven scholarship newcomers and just three scholarship returners. A month into spring ball, building chemistry amongst the pass catchers has been a big part of the Cardinals' offseason.
"Well, it's really fun coaching them, because they're interested in learning," McGee said. "They show up on time, have good attitude, good spirit and energy about themselves. They're really concentrating on trying to learn all the details that go along, and our offense is complex."
Following Wednesday's practice, McGee and wide receivers Jamari Thrash, Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, Kevin Coleman Jr. and Jimmy Calloway took time to meet with the media. They discussed the first month of spring ball, the amount of newcomers at the position, learning the new scheme, and more.
