Watch: OL Coach Richard Owens, Louisville Offensive Linemen Talk Spring Practice

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - While the Louisville football program has a new coaching staff roaming the sidelines, it isn't the first rodeo for many of them.
Of course, head coach Jeff Brohm is well known for his deep rooting ties to both the program and community. But of the nine new position assistants on his staff, seven of them have either previously played for, coached at or grew up in Louisville. One of which is new offensive line coach Richard Owens, who was a three-year starter in the early 2000's.
"I'm just honored to be here," he said. "To be back, it's important. It means a lot. it means something to the guys that have played here and been on those fields. To be able to come back and instill that into the players that are here, and create that work ethic and that drive, the meaning, that this place means something, I think is huge."
On top of the offensive system changing with the new staff, Owens is inheriting a Louisville offensive line that did lose a few impact players from last year's team. That being said, both the returners and newcomers have had good things to say regarding the first two weeks of spring practice for the Cardinals.
"It's been really good so far," offensive tackle Michael Gonzalez said. "It's been a lot of good energy, a lot of learning. People are moving a little too fast sometimes, but that's just part of the game. We've got to use the mistakes we make, learn off of them in the film room and come back out and fix it the next day."
Following Monday's practice, Owens, Gonzalez and offensive tackle Renato Brown took time to meet with the media. They discussed the start of spring practice, how the offensive line has adjusted to the new scheme, how some of the newcomers have faired, and more.
