Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers are entering "reload mode" in Baton Rouge following the program's Sweet 16 exit in the NCAA Tournament last week to the Duke Blue Devils.

Once the 2025-26 season wrapped up, Mulkey revealed the program will be gearing up for a pivotal offseason stretch with the NCAA Transfer Portal presenting significant opportunities.

"I'm not retiring. I plan to hire two coaches quickly. I plan to get in the portal and get two or three more players and take a little time off, go see my grandchildren, who actually flew in and got in late and didn't even see the game. But I'll get to visit with them tonight in the hotel," Mulkey said after the program's Sweet 16 loss to Duke.

"But there is no retiring. I think that's used a lot in recruiting. I think as we get older, as coaches, they want to say how much longer is she going to be in the game? I'm going to be in this game unless LSU fires me, okay, until I can't put a product on that floor that's competitive or my health fails me."

Now, in a recent interview with WAFB's Jacques Doucet, Mulkey revealed a significant tidbit on the future of the Tigers.

LSU will return their young corps - aside from former four-star guard Divine Bourrage after entering the Transfer Portal - amid a critical offseason.

“You cannot understand the value of having all of them come back,” Mulkey told Doucet. “That’s how you build it. That’s how you get over that hump of an Elite Eight. "

"When you look at those that are coming back — freshman, freshman, sophomore, junior sophomore — and look how much they did this year.

“And so, man, if they come back, they stay together, they play together. That’s how you build it. That’s the way it’s supposed to be done, so I am blessed that all of those great players are coming back.”

LSU will look to add two or three newcomers via the Transfer Portal this offseason amid the departures of Flau'jae Johnson and Amiya Joyner as the program looks to reload ahead of Mikaylah Williams' final season.
