Maryland (10-2) was defeated by Seton Hall (7-4) Thursday night at the Prudential Center. A lot of praise should go to the Pirates, after beating the No. 7 college basketball team in the country without their top two scorers in Myles Powell and Sandro Mamukelashvili.

The Terrapins are always off to a slow start and they cannot seem to avoid it. They were down 27-18 going into halftime due to their inaccuracy from the field, shooting 24 percent compared to the Pirates' 40 percent. After Anthony Cowan Jr made a 3-point jumper for the Terps with 12:16 remaining in the first half to pull the deficit within three, they did not score for the next 8:19. Seton Hall went on a 10-3 run during that stretch.

Maryland did go on an 8-0 run with 1:13 remaining in the half. Jalen "Stix" Smith was almost non-existent, scoring only three points going into the break. However, Cowan led the team with eight points including 2-of-6 from the field during that time.

Cowan led the team with 16 points but made only 1-of-8 attempts after the break. Smith finished with 11 points but had a very disappointing night. When both of them struggle, the Terrapins stand no chance.

The Pirates led by as many as 15 points in the game and they continued their hot start in the second half. Despite Maryland's improved performance coming out of the break outscoring Seton Hall 30-25, they only made 26.9 percent of their shots on the night.

Quincy McKnight stepped up his game for the Pirates, leading the team with 17 points. Seton Hall snaps their two-game skid while Maryland extend their losing streak to two. The Terrapins will need to regroup and try to correct their inconsistencies during their 10-day break.
