Miami's Offense Explodes In First Half Of Double-Header, Winning 19-2

A Combination Of Strong Pitching And Powerful Bats Push Miami To Their Second Win Of The Season

Miami must've gotten their jitters out last night, because they looked like a completely different beast this afternoon.

Powered by five home runs and strong pitching throughout, Miami dominated the NJIT Highlanders en route to a 19-2 victory in the first half of today's double-header.

Starting on the mound for Miami was junior Rafe Schlesinger, who delivered nine strikeouts (tied for his career high) across five innings of work. After allowing a run in the top of the first, Schlesinger kept NJIT in check and handed it off to his bullpen to do the rest. The bullpen combined to allow just one run across their four innings of work.

However the story of the game was the offense, as freshman Daniel Cuvet was sensational in his second collegiate game. Leaving the game in the sixth inning after being pinch hit for, Cuvet finished the afternoon hitting 4-4 with a 460 foot home run to left field. He also added two doubles and two RBIs on day. It's still very early in the season, but Cuvet might make the transition from Yohandy Morales a smooth one.

Jason Torres and Carlos Perez also finished with strong outings, as Torres led the team in RBIs with five and had two home runs. Perez added a home run as well after being the hero of last night's game. Miami's offense finished with 16 total hits and was walked 13 times.

A quick turn around for this double-header, as Miami will be back in action against NJIT tonight at 7:00 PM for the second half of the double-header as they honor the 1999 National Championship team. Lefty Herick Hernandez is set to be the game three starter.
