REPORT: FAU Big Man Vlad Goldin Leaning Toward Michigan

Michigan head coach Dusty May is working hard to fill out his roster.

Michigan head basketball coach Dusty May inherited a bit of a mess after Juwan Howard was fired with the roster, or lack thereof, being one of the biggest issues to tackle. So far, not much has happened, but that may be changing soon.

Several of May's former players from FAU have jumped into the transfer portal since he left for the U-M gig and a couple of them may end up in Ann Arbor with their coach. One who seems to be close to pulling the trigger is center Vladislav Goldin. The 7-1, 240-pounder has been linked to the Wolverines lately and several insiders even see him as a Michigan lean at this point.

Goldin is a two-time All-Conference selection and carved out a major role while at FAU under May. Last year he averaged 15.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. He also made 67% of his shot attempts during the year, but did not make one three pointer. He is truly a back-to-the-basket, throwback type of big man. If Michigan can land him, along with Yale transfer Danny Wolf, May would really have something in the two 7-footers.

Goldin also recently declared for the NBA Draft, which is a bit of a head scratcher as he's not on any mock draft boards and also isn't what NBA teams are looking for in bigs these days. It's much more likely that he'll be playing college basketball next year and it feels most like it'll be in Ann Arbor.
