Rose Bowl: Michigan Defense Ready For Challenge Of Facing Alabama

The Wolverines are prepping for the best offensive unit they've faced all season long in Alabama, and they're ready for the challenge.

The Wolverines have faced their fair share of challenges throughout the 2023 season, but the Crimson Tide will certainly present the toughest challenge of the year for Michigan defense.

It starts with redshirt sophomore quarterback Jalen Milroe, who's accounted for 2,718 yards and 23 touchdowns through the air. Beyond the issues he can present in the passing game, the 6-2, 220 pound gunslinger is also a threat to hurt a defense with his running ability. Milroe has rushed for 468 yards on 140 carries so far this season, and has proven he can extend drives with his legs if need be.

Another offensive threat is sophomore Isaiah Bond. The 5-11, 182 pound wideout made an incredible play in the SEC Championship game that propelled the Crimson Tide into the CFP, and he figures to be a major target for Milroe in the Rose Bowl against Michigan. Bond has 624 yards and 4 touchdowns on 44 receptions, but his big play capability is certainly something the Michigan secondary will need to be aware of.

Meeting with the media on Thursday, defensive coordinator was asked if this Alabama offense is the best the Wolverines have faced so far. His answer? Yes.

"Yeah, I do", said Minter. "I think that when you combine their offensive line, the quarterbacks ability to make plays, the speed, they have a receiver, their ability to run the ball. You know, the extra time to prepare, I think when you take in all that, and they're in the Final Four for a reason, you know, they're in the top four. So it's a great challenge. And, you know, one that one that we really respect how they play and how they operate, and one that we really look forward to the challenge."
