Jim Harbaugh Publicly Discusses Schembechler Controversy

Shemy Schembechler's recent employment with the University of Michigan was extremely short-lived. Just three days after the announcement of his hiring, Schembechler resigned from his position as assistant recruiting director due to his controversial Twitter history. Some of the Twitter activity that caused the most controversy can be seen below.
Speaking today at the National College Showcase camp at Wayne State, Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh addressed the issue first time publicly.
"Once we became aware of things that were just offensive, offensive to me, offensive to other members of our team, we just didn't want that mindset around," Harbaugh said. "It's disappointing, you know? I've known Shemy for a long time, but there are no sacred cows. It's not who we are. It's not us."

Although the University of Michigan utilizes the services of a third-party company to review the social media activity of any potential hire, Harbaugh said that the report he received on Shemy Schembechler didn't include any issues he should be aware of.
As a result, Harbaugh said that a new company is now conducting the social media reviews.
“We have a new company doing that,” Harbaugh said. "But we have to be better. I’ll take responsibility for that. If somebody can find that in a day, then we have to be able to be on it ourselves.”
