In this story:

Commitment No. 2 in Michigan's 2025 class is Buford (Ga.) High linebacker Mantrez Walker. The stout, speedy backer pulled the trigger for the Wolverines while broadcasting live while getting a haircut. The Georgia product chose the Wolverines over nearly 20 other offers, including a final group that included LSU, Florida and Penn State. Take a look at how he fits in at U-M as a player and member of the 2025 class.

The Player

Walker currently checks in at 5-11, 215 pounds and really looks like a modern-day, do-it-all type of linebacker. Gone are the days of 6-4, 250-pound hulking linebackers as we see more and more players built like Walker with versatile skill sets. Walker is obviously only a sophomore, so his body could change a lot before he even arrives in Ann Arbor, but he already has an athletic, thick build. He's not super long or rangy, but he's not squatty either, despite his short-ish build.

He flashes some really nice signs of being a speedy, aggressive tackler. Walker appears to have fantastically quick feet and an ability to dissect a play in a hurry, which allows him to play even faster. He's low to the ground and plays with great leverage when shedding blocks or delivering a blow to a ball carrier. He's young and will certainly develop a lot over his next two years of high school football, but you can see what he already has almost 20 offers and a top four of some big time programs.

The Class

Walker is commit No. 2 in Michigan's 2025 class as he joins Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep four-star cornerback Chris Ewald who pledged to the Wolverines back in December. It's obviously extremely early, but for Michigan to be landing highly coveted prospects from SEC country is certainly a good sign. With Walker and Ewald in the fold, Michigan is currently No. 4 in the country in 2025.
