Though he was only in his true freshman season, linebacker Osman Savage announced on Wednesday night that his recruitment was completely open, which means he is now in the transfer portal.

Since Savage had barely been a part of organized team activities in Ann Arbor, his entrance to the transfer portal leaves more questions than answers initially.

Osman Savage has officially entered the transfer portal.

During the recruiting process, Savage was listed as a four-star prospect and the No. 12 outside linebacker and the No. 159 overall recruit in the country according to Rivals.com. Savage came to Michigan from Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy, which is a powerhouse program in the region.

Over the years, St. Frances has become a fruitful location for Michigan. At one point, Michigan hired former St. Frances head coach Biff Poggi to become an assistant at U-M, and the Wolverines also signed running back Blake Corum and linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green in the same 2020 class as Savage.

Though the Wolverines will be without Savage moving forward, Brown spoke at length about how strong and competitive U-M's current crop of true freshman are. This is what he had to say about Hill-Green:

"We also feel good about Nikhai Hill-Green at Will and Kalel Mullings at Mike, so we feel like we're going to be in good shape there," Brown said. "Pretty excited about that group."

"Nikhai Hill-Green plays he Will next door to him," Brown said. "[Hill-Green and Kalel Mullings] both were just in my office. They love football. They love being around it. You know, I just say the sky is the limit with those guys."

Michigan will move forward without that added depth at linebacker, and it also frees up a scholarship for the Wolverines to use for the 2021 class. Expect U-M to take one additional player in the current cycle as a result of this move, potentially putting that number anywhere between 26 and 28 eventual signees.
