BREAKING: Four-star 2024 center prospect commits to Tom Izzo, Michigan State
Michigan State men's basketball's two-year hot streak on the recruiting trail continued on Thursday when four-star 2024 Cleveland (Ohio) Lutheran East center Jesse McCulloch gave a verbal pledge to the Green and White.
The 6-foot-9, 190-pound McCullock chose the Spartans amongst a 'Final Four' that also included Alabama, Xavier and Virginia Tech. He had 18 total NCAA-Div. I scholarship offers including fellow Big Ten schools Ohio State, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.
McCulloch is considered a four-star prospect in three out of the four major recruiting services, with Rivals.com the only service which lists him as a three-star. 247Sports ranks McCulloch as the No. 88 overall prospect in the country, the No. 1 player from the state of Ohio and the No. 15 center prospect for the 2024 class.
McCulloch joins four-star Haverhill (Mass.) Bradford Christian Academy shooting guard Kur Teng in the Spartans' 2024 recruiting class. Teng, who committed back on April 3, is one of the top prospects in this cycle. He is considered the No. 37 overall prospect, No. 8 shooting guard and No. 1 player from the state of Massachusetts in the 2024 class by the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Michigan State is coming off its best season in three years after finishing fourth in the Big Ten Conference standings and reaching the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2019. The Spartans have high expectations heading into next season after seniors Tyson Walker and Malik Hall both decided to return for a fifth season in East Lansing.
Michigan State's 2023-24 roster will be bolstered by five-star forward Xavier Booker, five-star point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. and four-star forwards Coen Carr and Gehrig Normand, who make up the country's No. 3 recruiting class for 2023.
Now, the Spartans have a two four-star players to build around in the 2024 class with Teng and McCulloch in the fold. Michigan State will continue to look for other potential fits during this recruiting cycle.
