On his official visits to different schools around the Midwest and Atlantic Coast, Sherard Cadogan is just looking for the right fit. He could go anywhere he wanted if academics were the only consideration; both Harvard and Stanford have sought his talent. But the real question for Cadogan, an athlete who plays defensive end, linebacker and tight end at the prep level, is who will feel right as a college football family after he completes his official visits.

"I use the officials to meet the coaches and players and build relationships," Cadogan said, "so that when I get in there, I can get in early. That's why I like the officials, I can talk to the players and talk to all the coaches."

Pat Narduzzi has been working hard to convince Cadogan that Michigan State is the place to call home. As Cadogan's primary recruiter, Narduzzi went to visit the star prospect in Cherry Hill, New Jersey last year.

"He's a great coach, a great defensive coordinator, I talk to him a lot," Cadogan said of the passionate Narduzzi. "He came to my school last year and talked to me. He said, 'Hey man, I might get on you, but in the long run you are going to learn a lot.'"

State is in Cadogan's final five schools he is officially visiting. The others include South Carolina, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Wisconsin. This weekend, Cadogan will get his first taste of MSU football in person as he officially visits Madison, Wisconsin, where the Badgers will be battling the Spartans.

Cadogan will learn much more about Michigan State on his official visit during the Iowa game on October 24, but he already knows a little based on MSU's reputation and the information he's gleaned from his father, who has been to East Lansing and has walked State's campus.

"They have a great coach," Cadogan said, then adding some detail learned through his dad: "He's been out there and said it has a great campus. That's one reason I want to go."

Another reason is because Cadogan likes what he sees from MSU on Saturdays. "I always watch them play on TV, they play fast and the defensive line attacks the ball," he said. As for a verbal, Cadogan says he'll take his officials and then, "take it form there."

As a dominant defensive player — he stands 6-foot-3, 230 pounds and runs a 4.65 in the 40-yard dash — Cadogan draws never-ending double teams. He says he just grinds it out when faced with game plans that pay exorbitant attention to his position on defense.

"Most teams want me as a D-end," Cadogan said, noting a few have talked about playing tight end. As for what coaches say they like about his game as a defensive player, Cadogan explains: "A lot of coaches mention my explosiveness off the ball, my quickness and speed, and also my strength. And I'm only going to get bigger and stronger."
