2011 Spartan Nation Football Profile: #4 Edwin ROCK Baker

2011 Eligibility:Â Junior

EXP:Â 2 Letters

Status:Â Starting RB, All Big Ten, Potential All American

Strengths:  First, let me say that Kirk Cousins is lauded for being a great young man and he is, but in his backfield is ROCK Baker who is equally a special young man. He is a gem, a humble, special, and truly wonderful person. His talent is God given, but his character and integrity make him special.

Against the Irish last season the Spartans in the third quarter with 14:30 on the clock had a first and team at their own 44. ROCK took the ball right up the middle and simply ran away for the 56 yard TD. Now think about this people. He ran away from people that were in position. He just blew by them. He may not have the 40-yard time that people are in love with, but he has speed and that kills.

Weakness: Against WMU in the second quarter with 2:26 on the clock the Spartans had a first and ten at their own 20. He made his cut, but then tried to dance. Some guys (Larry Caper) can do that, Baker can’t. He has to make his cut and go. He doesn’t do it often, but when he dances, with his size, he gets hit and it is over. Just cut and go.

Final Analysis: ROCK has an excellent chance to have a major year and leave early for the NFL. With two NFL RBs behind him he may not get all the carries that he needs to get the attention he deserves. He has the talent to go, and what makes him special is that he isn’t even thinking about it. He is a true teammate.
