Setting the rumors right, on T.J. Williams and SirDarean Adams

Contrary to rumors and speculation that are rampant within the Spartan Nation, T.J. Williams and SirDarean Adams are not “gone†or “kicked off†of the MSU football team. Both, however, are in head coach Mark Dantonio’s doghouse for “non-football skill issues†and will have to walk the tightest of tight ropes to play in the 2007 seasons. In fact I think it is fair to characterize their road to make it to the field in 2007 as a tough task.

It is unfair to attack their character and to make guestimates about why they are in Dantonio’s less than stellar graces, but the point is that they are still part of the team and are trying to gain back the trust and confidence of a new head coach that is absolutely laying down a zero tolerance with off field issues.Â

One Spartan said it best when he commented to me last night, “Coach doesn’t care who you are or how good you are. If you are a Spartan he expects you to act like it or be gone. He loves you, but it really is a tough love. He wouldn’t be like the Lions with the naked coach either. If his staff messed up he would hold them accountable also and they would be gone. I think some guys just didn’t take him as serious (laughing) and I can’t even pretend to know why. They are getting a real quick attitude adjustment. We have a long way to go, but he always tells the team that we are not in a sprint and we have to make sure we build right the first time so in three years we are not dealing with stuff we should have fixed today. I think coach wants to deal with this (Williams and SirDarean Adams) so in three years when we are trying to win Big Ten championships and other serious matters we don’t have to wonder what folks are doing or whether or not being a Spartan means something to them. We are all just dust in this program’s existence and either you love and respect the privilege it is to be a Spartan or get the [expletive] out, plain and simple.â€

Classroom grades, accountability socially, and football playing are the three areas that Dantonio is focusing on. The entire team knows exactly what he wants. I think people should spend more time talking about who is here than who isn’t or may not be.
