A Look Back at the Last Weekend in Football Recruiting and Updating the 2010 Dash to the Finish

The Spartan coaching staff had another successful recruiting weekend and once again it reaped immediate benefits with the commitment of Anthony White. The staff picked up a great young man and player and surely is excited about this commitment.

The other two prospects on campus were Leterrius Walton and Rashad Frazier. Walton’s stock has really been rising lately but the staff is holding off on offering him a scholarship until they see how the rest of the class shakes out. Frazier had a great time this weekend and is currently holding the Spartans at the top of his list.

White’s commitment leaves the Spartans with a maximum of five scholarships remaining for this current class. Earlier this month, it seemed as though the Spartans were going to keep some of those for the 2011 class. However, after the responses they have been getting from prospects on their official visits and the amount of under-the-radar players who have been showing up lately, it appears the staff could use all five of them.

The Spartans are looking good in the offensive trenches. Eric Franklin, Offensive Tackle from Youngstown, OH would add more depth to the Spartans’ offensive line. He is an excellent player and would be a great add.

I expect the Spartans to address their biggest need with the few remaining scholarships in this class.  Adding much needed depth to the defensive backfield, I expect Mike Dorsey, Safety from Warren, OH and Darqueze Dennard, Cornerback from Jeffersonville, GA to both be wearing green and white on signing day and coming in to compete for immediate playing time.

The Spartans will be have a tough choice to decide if they want to pocket scholarships for the loaded 2011 class or add more depth to the current class. I expect the Spartans to hold on to at least one scholarship, but if they choose to use it for this class, I expect it will be in the trenches. Either Alex Lewis, Offensive Tackle from Phoenix, AZ, Rashad Frazier, Defensive End from Middleton, OH, or Kenneth Kirksey, Defensive Tackle from Daytona Beach, FL will take the remaining scholarship.

On Thursday, we will be looking at the upcoming weekend to see if the Spartans will be having any more official visits. The coaching staff wants to use the basketball game to their advantage. We will also be looking at the 2011 class and updating you on if any new scholarships have been offered.
