Hondo- I was just reading your most recent Q/A forum, when I came across the answer you gave for a question regarding who might be the QB as of next year. Unto which you wrote that Dantonio had made it clear that Lewerke or Deweaver would be leading the offense as of next year. Is that even feasible considering the fact that there is already two capable QBs in front of them that have been in the system for a few years like O'Connor and Terry? Do you think it's really possible that either of these could be passed up for redshirt freshman or a True freshman? Nick Gazella

Thanks for reading Nick. First, I DID NOT SAY THAT. I was referring to what a coach referenced to me. I will tell you that it is a real possibility. Tyler and Terry are great young men, but off the record the things not only me but some of my other colleagues are hearing from inside the program about Lewerke are pretty monster. Don’t count Lewerke out. His team loves him and he is tough as nails and has shown it leading the scout team.

Hondo, with MSU football losing three commits from the 2016 class, tell me how I can stop panicking. Mike T.

First, I would tell any person that if a 16-18 year old picking among several chances for a free education that you are not related to can make you panic perhaps you need to reassess your life. Second, people are selling against MSU and rightfully so because of the depth on this team. The DL is going to lose some players this year and look at the depth that isn’t even playing now; look at the depth and youth at RB and other positions. Frankly, this is part of the game as programs reach the higher level. Top recruits look at every little detail and it isn't negative of other schools to point out to a young man, "You want to go to the NFL after three years and you may not even play there for a couple of years.

Hi Hondo, in your latest Q&A you replied to one more question about our lack of backup QB game experience, saying you’ve written about it “to the point of getting a ton of hate mail”. Are you saying Spartan fans believe you raise the question too much? If so, I can’t believe it. This question should be asked after every game now. It is not simply a question of preparing a QB with game experience for next year, but what happens now if Cook is injured THIS year and is not able to complete a game. Coaching decisions seem to hurt both TOC and Terry. Hi Tim, yes I get a large amount of criticism for asking, but the point is Mark Dantonio told me he “failed” in Kirk Cousins senior season not preparing Andrew Maxwell by playing him more and that he would learn from that. As referenced above however, if Dantonio doesn’t think either one is the answer next year and that may be the answer, then not playing them more as he assessed post Cousins makes sense. I am not saying that, only speculating based on what others have said. Plus, Terry did pass and run vs Nebraska.

Hondo, I am extremely impressed with the manner in which Coach Dantonio and the players have publicly handled themselves in front of the press in reference to the post Nebraska game environment.  I shouldn't be surprised. Coach Dantonio is the real deal.  Your insight on the team(s) over the years has been solid. What is the mental make-up of the team post Nebraska? Dan

I think there is a real and deep wound. It hurt them. To be honest I have not seen this pain since the loss to Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game. I have no read. They are going to either learn from the Husker loss and destroy Maryland or struggle. This game will tell me a lot. If they come out and destroy Maryland having learned, this team might be better. OSU is beatable and how the Spartans play Saturday is going to really impact my thoughts on next week.

Hondo, do you have any thoughts on Shilique Calhoun’s comments on the Huskers being dirty? Keith Field

None. If Shilique feels that way I would have advised him to simply keep it to himself. There was and is a ton of holding from both teams in every Big Ten game. Shilique is a fine young man who I like very much, but perhaps sometimes saying nothing is better than anything.
