Catching Up With 2012 MSU Football Recruit Riley Bullough

Another Bullough makes his way onto the college football recruiting scene. Riley Bullough of Traverse City Saint Francis, continues the Bullough family tradition of defenders to make their way toward the collegiate ranks. 

 

The name Bullough has graced a Spartan uniform on four occasions and over the course of three generations.  Grandfather Hank (architect of the 3-4 defense), Uncle Chuck and his father Shane all once wore the Spartan uniform; his brother Max will anchor the Spartan defense as Greg Jones’ replacement at MLB this fall. 

 

The Spartan faithful hope Riley will be the next Bullough to suite up in Green and White.

 

At 6’2” and 215 pounds, Riley is fast enough to play both safety and linebacker. He is only a junior in high school and is probably not done growing. There are a number of positions that Riley could play at the next level, but chances are pretty good that he ends up on the defensive side of the ball. 

 

Like his brother Max, Riley has football in his pedigree and really understands the game from a coach’s vantage point. He will be hard to keep off the field early in his career because of his mental readiness for the game.

 

Spartan Nation recently spoke with Riley and he talked about his relationship with older brother Max. “The last two years, Max and I have gotten a lot closer. When we were younger, we fought a lot. Max is really supportive of me. I talk to him quite a bit. He’s got a lot of good advice… had a lot of things that he taught me.” It is evident that Riley’s relationship with Max is one that is special and has impacted his life greatly.

 

We asked Riley when he thought that he would announce his college choice and he had this to say. “I kind of want to make a decision early this summer… maybe June or July. I will make a decision when I know.” Spartan’s everywhere are anxiously awaiting Riley’s decision. The prospect of two Bullough’s roaming the Spartan defense has many in the Spartan Nation excited for summer camp recruiting and the subsequent announcements.

 

Riley took a moment to share his thoughts on football played Bullough family style. Like every Bullough before him, Riley plays the game at full throttle and always very physical. “You got to play fast, you got to play physical. I was getting yelled at for trying to hit the defenders when I was running the ball rather than juke them out. I am going to try and change that a little bit.” That is music to Spartans everywhere. A kid who loves to hit, play full go and initiate contact. Sounds like another Bullough to me.
