Coach Dantonio Eyeing Another Ohio Player for the 2010 Class

It has been said that having a great blocking Tight End is like having six Offensive Lineman. Well the Spartans are trying to dip back into the Ohio talent pool and scoop up a TE that can provide that type of impact and his name is Dan Schneider.

 

The 6’4” 230-pound Avon Lake (OH) native is one of the best blocking TE’s in the talent-rich state of Ohio and would be a tremendous get for the Spartans in the 2010 class.

 

The Spartans have been putting a large emphasis on TE’s bringing in three new ones this past off-season alone. Those young men, Clemson Transfer Brian Linthicum and new recruits Dion Sims and Derek Hoebing, all bring something different to the table and so does Schneider. He doesn’t have the speed or versatility of Sims, but he is a hard-nosed kid who can block with the best of them.

 

Coach Dantonio preached at his 2009 signing day press conference how he and his staff were intent on bringing in versatile players, and Schneider fits that mold. He has played both DE and TE in his high school career thus far and although it is down the road, that versatility could spell a career at DE for Schneider if TE numbers are stacked against him.

 

While he may not have received any offers yet there is certainly no lack of interest in Schneider. He lists Cincinnati, Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, Notre Dame, and Ohio State all as possibilities outside of MSU.

 

It is very early in the process and the offers should start coming in after summer camps are complete. The Spartans will undoubtedly look to bring Schneider up to camp this summer, as they like to do with all of their top tier recruits, and based on his performance the interest is sure to grow in one way or another.
