East Lansing, MI— Spartan Nation last season on multiple occasions reported that with the Spartans loaded at wide receiver, many thought transfer Jayden Reed was the best. On the scout team, he repeatedly made big plays and turned teammates and coaches into spectators.

As his transfer red-shirt season is over, Courtney Hawkins, the new wide receiver coach for the Spartans, was asked about his burgeoning star and if he has gotten a look yet with the COVID-19 safety protocols shutting down spring football.

"Jayden is hungry. He had to sit out last year and he made the decision to transfer. We had a conversation as to why and he wanted to play at the highest level and compete against guys in the Big Ten. He's been working hard in the weight room and conditioning-wise, getting his body and his mind right. I expect him to have a great year. He's a quick kid, he runs well, he has a nice burst, has nice top-end speed, so we'll just work to hone his skills as a receiver, work on some things; getting in and out of breaks, maintain separation and I think Jayden is going to be a huge surprise for Spartan Nation, the kid can play."

The Spartans kick off the season on September 5, 2020. They will be hosting in the Northwestern Wildcats with a rare, season-opening Big Ten game.
