Dantonio has a new weapon in recruiting and his competition doesn’t like it!

Â
Make no mistake that the inroads that new MSU head Coach Mark Dantonio has made in recruiting have woke a lot of people up and they don’t like it. Many of the schools that Dantonio competes again have told recruits that MSU will run a “Perles” type offense and in fact one school used the word “archaic” to describe it. The humorous thing however was the recruit told me, “I hadn’t heard the word archaic before and didn’t even know what it meant.”

Â
Well now Dantonio has a new weapon. What is it? He has game tape that tells recruits that he and offensive coordinator Don Treadwell and the wildcat Pat Narduzzi have been telling the truth. In fact I talked with Dantonio this week about that and he told me that it does help. He explained to me that, “we are balanced and I guess the game tape helps us show some recruits reality and not perception. A big time receiver can see that he will get the chance to make big plays and a back will see the reps and opportunities that exist.” He also went on to talk about how defensive players will see the chances that they would get.

Â
The important fact is that Dantonio and his staff will not take a route in recruiting that goes negative. Dantonio told me, “That just isn’t the way I do things. MSU is a positive place. I want kids that want to come here and be Spartans, not because they didn’t want to be others. I just wouldn’t want to play for someone that spent all of their time talking bad about others. We don’t really get a lot of time with recruits anymore with so many rules and we have so much to talk about that revolves around MSU, so we just don’t waste time talking about others.”

Â
The facts are however that other schools are using their “limited” time taking shots at MSU and the film is all that MSU needs. I know that the game on Saturday has had a positive affect with recruits and Dantonio acknowledged it on Monday at his press conference.

Â
I spoke last night with one highly sought after recruit about the process and what he liked about MSU. “I guess I can say that when you talk to them they are just so blatantly honest. I really like the fact that they don’t spend their time and mine I guess telling me why I shouldn’t go somewhere else. They want me to be as excited as them when they found out they were coming to MSU. I am not sure where I will go but MSU has made the biggest impression on my family just by how they do it.”
