Dantonio Lands Another 2009 Recruit and Once Again he is from the D
It hasn’t taken long for Mark Dantonio to put his stamp on the state of Michigan and the city of Detroit. Late last night Dantonio learned that another recruit from there has decided to be a Spartan.
Athlete Dana Dixon from Detroit Renaissance High School (6’3†174#) has committed to the Spartans. He is a safety and a wide receiver in High School and the Spartans haven’t pigeon holed him to either spot. He will get time to develop and fit the appropriate need.
The Spartans conversations with Dixon have made it appear that he will begin on defense.  Following the Dantonio theory, they will get the best players on the field and if that need is WR he will get the chance.
He has exceptional hands and good speed. What makes the youngster impressive is how he uses his body. A high school coach who is very familiar with Dixon told me today at the MSU passing camp that, “His size is really hard to adjust to. He has very good speed, but he isn’t the fastest. What makes him good is his ability to use his body. You don’t see balls hit his body they hit his hands. That same technique is what makes him good on defense. His tackles are textbook and he can really whack a receiver. His ability to see the field gives him range and ability that are perfect for a safety. He is a good get for Mark.â€
Dixon had several offers from the Big Ten and Big East and although he had not been offered by Michigan they were actively talking and looking at him.  The Dixon commitment brings the list of recruits that have already committed to eight with several more holding offers and giving significant thought to joining the Spartan Nation.
