Don’t Let the Nickname Fool You…Shoelaces is the Best Offensive Player in College Football

Â

I love rivalry week. MSU vs. UM is what college football is all about. I have said for many years that records don’t matter this week. Why? Because this is about a lot more than just a football game. This game will be the talk of decades simply because they all are.
Â
MSU will compete against the best player in college football when they arrive in Ann Arbor.  Denard Robinson is a great kid, a true gentleman with some exceptional God-given talent. Credit his coach for getting him in a position to exploit those talents.
Â
In fairness, I didn’t see UM being 5-0. I saw three and two because I didn’t think their defense was any good. I am right about the D, I simply didn’t expect Robinson to be this good.
Â
If he were not wearing a winged helmet, most in the Spartan Nation could step back and truly be amazed at the athletic talent not seen in college football since Reggie Bush. Shoelaces is a hybrid mix of Reggie Bush, Deion Sanders, and Devin Hester. He is a freak, and I mean that as a compliment.
Â
Can he take the hits and punishment that the Spartans will deliver? He has not faced a defense as good as MSU, and MSU hasn’t even come close (Sorry Irish Nation) to facing a player or offense as good as him. If Robinson stays healthy and continues to play the way he is, they will not only give him the Heisman, they may rename it.
Â
MSU doesn’t need to stop Robinson. I don’t know if anyone can do that. He will get his yards. They simply have to not let him have the game that others have with inferior defenses.
I love this week. My phone is ringing with interview requests, former players are sending me email already fired up, and long lost “friends†and family are pimping me for tickets. This is what rivalry week is about.
Â
I have said many times I want both teams undefeated each year for this game. I expect an epic game on Saturday. I just think that in the rhetoric and in the smack talk, give credit where credit is due. Shoelaces is a cute story, but he is a stud player. Can he sustain what MSU will throw at him? We shall see. This we know. The stars are aligned for another classic game with great athletes on both sides.
Â
The UM defense is worse than expected with a barrage of injuries and the offense is better than expected with Robinson leading the way. The Spartans offense is potent and the defense is getting better each and every week.
Â
Shoelaces vs. the MSU D is going to be an incredible chess match and one for the ages!Â
