Excitement Builds For Champs Sports Bowl

MSU reports that more than half of its allotment of 12,000 tickets for the Dec. 28 game against Boston College have been sold.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Just five business days after Michigan State accepted an invitation to play No. 14 Boston College in the Dec. 28 Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, Fla., the Spartan Ticket Office reports that nearly 7,000 tickets have been sold for the postseason game.

Michigan State received an allotment of 12,000 tickets, with all seats located in the lower and mezzanine levels on the west side of Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium (65,438 capacity). Those seating locations are comparable to lower-bowl seating in Spartan Stadium.

Tickets, priced at $60 each, remain on sale through the Spartan Ticket Office. Fans may order Champs Sports Bowl tickets online at msuspartans.com (click "tickets" and proceed to the Spartan Online Ticket Office) or by calling the Spartan Ticket Office (open weekdays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.), locally at 355-1610 or outside the Lansing area at 1-800-GO-STATE. Seating will be allocated based upon donor priority, beginning Dec. 11.

"We deeply appreciate all of the Spartan fans who have already made travel plans to support the football team in Orlando," MSU Athletics Director-Designate Mark Hollis said. "We also anticipate many more fans to finalize their bowl travel plans in the next several days.

"We’re all proud of what this team accomplished under first-year head coach Mark Dantonio. It’s important for our fans to publicly demonstrate their support for this year’s team because this bowl game also can serve as a springboard for next season."

"We’re extremely delighted by the initial response to our Official Bowl Tour," MSU Alumni Association Executive Director Bill Beekman said. "We’ve already sold out two planes (137 seats each).

"We’ve put together an exciting all inclusive three-night tour, with deluxe accommodations at The Peabody Orlando. The hotel is conveniently located across the street from the Bowl-a-Palooza FanFest at the Orange County Convention Center."

For information about the MSU Alumni Association Official Bowl Tour, Spartan fans should call 877-373-5067 or visit the MSUAA web site at http://www.msualum.com/bowls/.

Spartan fans, who are unable to attend the bowl game in person, are encouraged to consider purchasing tickets from MSU’s allotment through the "Bowl For Kids" account. For each $60 seat purchased through this account, the Florida Citrus Sports Foundation will distribute two tickets to charitable organizations in Greater Orlando. Fans who wish to participate in the "Bowl For Kids" program should use the account number 30000 when purchasing tickets by phone. The account number represents the Athletics Department’s long-term goal of having 30,000 Spartan fans in attendance at bowl games.

Michigan State is making its 18th postseason bowl appearance – its first since a 17-3 loss to Nebraska in the 2003 Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.
