Four NFL Team Employees Break Down Javon Ringer and His Draft Status

Long time readers of SpartanNation.com know that each year as the NFL draft approaches I have several friends who work for various NFL teams and they have let us in on their draft analysis. I have asked four of them to break down the MSU athletes who are part of the combine.
Â
The four men for the Javon Ringer evaluation are from the NFC and the AFC (three from AFC and one NFC) and I won’t go any farther into where they come from as to protect their identity. Today they break down Javon Ringer’s performance. I asked all four various questions.
Â
What round will he get picked in:
Â
Scout #1:Â 4th
Scout #2: 4th
Scout #3: 4th
Scout #4:Â 3rd

Rate his in season film and your thoughts PRIOR to the combine:
Â
Scout #1: We were impressed with the workload that he endured. It was very obvious that from the start to the end he lost that second gear. He is tough and plays RB and special teams, which he has to do at this level. Great character guy and loves the game.
Â
Scout #2: How can you not love the kid, but his loss of speed really sent up some red flags. He did a good job catching the ball, not great but good for sure. Loved his heart. Didn’t fumble.Â
Â
Scout #3: We thought that with both knees and a late season injury that he certainly isn’t a full time back. The fact that he not only played special teams while being the main workhorse at MSU was impressive. Great lateral movement and a no fear kind of runner.
Â
Scout #4: If you watch his tape it is hard not to be impressed. The injuries have to scare you, because no matter how big a guy can play, if he can’t stay on the field that costs dollars. Certainly has a place in the league, but have to really get a strong medical and analyze the mid season speed loss. We liked how his teammates loved him and would run up and hug him and help him up. Those are little things that tell you the truth about whether a guy is a good locker room guy. He isn’t afraid to block and you have to love seeing that little guy go after a big backer or even a tackle that got past a lineman. He is a third down type back and that means he has to block and he isn’t afraid of no one.

Rate his combine:
Â
Scout #1: Ringer didn’t hurt himself at the combine, but he also didn’t help himself. Some other guys had some big days. He interviews great and is a great person. If he hadn’t of had so many injuries I think he would be a 2nd rounder, but with the dollars that go there we see him as a fourth. Will do anything. Loves the game, and plays football all out.
Â
Scout #2: On the three cone and the 20 he looked sharp. That tells us that his knees are fine. It isn’t that we were worried about their recovery. We are worried that he does keep sustaining injuries. Once you talk to the kid you love him and he is the kind of guy you want on your football team. When you talk to him he is just as excited about playing specials as regular offense. The past with injuries however won’t let you spend the big money of a second or for us even a third. Great value at a five, but somebody will probably look at him at four.
Â
Scout #3: You walk away from an interview with him and think, “Now that’s a football player.â€Â We had noticed on his film that when he was on offense and his team committed a turnover that he would instantly go into defensive mode. We asked him about it and he loves to hit and just play. His past major injuries will drop him down our chart simply from the dollars invested standpoint, but that young man is a football player.
Â
Scout #4: Ringer is the kind of kid that when he is fifty he will be playing in some old fat guys flag league. He just loves football. It is disappointing that he sustained so many injuries. He will be up against bigger, faster and much stronger players at this level and you have to wonder how long he can handle the beating. He isn’t a three down back, but he will play teams (special) and be a good change of back type.
