Inside information on the MSU search as promised:

All of the following information was given by at least two independent sources closely connected to MSU as well as I have been traveling around the country

All of the following information was given by at least two independent sources closely connected to MSU as well as I have been traveling around the country gathering information and I can assure you that more details will come as I can reveal them.

Who are the people doing the first round interviews?  Ron Mason, Mark Hollis and Allan Haller, a former MSU player and currently in law enforcement, are the three men traveling and holding the preliminary interviews. This first round of interviews is scheduled to end early this week. It is confirmed that they were also going on last week.

Who has been interviewed? Bo Pelini, Charlie Strong, Todd Grantham and Pat Shurmur. One name I cannot give that is going to get one and I have kept him silent from the beginning. Many people feel he does not have a chance and I would agree. When the search is over however, I will tell you whom it is if I am unable to reveal before. It is clear, however, that other people will also get a preliminary interview.

What questions are they asking? Who do you have in mind for your staff? What is your philosophy on discipline? I can only confirm that these two questions were asked during the interview. I could state others, but they have not all been asked of each candidate and to reveal more may expose sources and I don’t want to reveal sources.

What are they telling the candidates about visits to East Lansing and when? They are telling the candidates that they are going to finish the interviews and report back. People selected for a second interview will be brought to East Lansing shortly thereafter.

What role is Izzo playing?  They are being told that, because of basketball season and Tom’s schedule, that he is unable to make the trips for the preliminary interviews. They are also being told though, that Tom will be conducting phone interviews within a short time of their preliminary interview. Who knows if that is actually true, but the idea that the two programs are at least going to be on the same page is a great idea.
