Mark Dantonio Lands Commitment #2 for the 2014 Class in LB Byron Bullough!

Yesterday was the first day of practice for the 2012 MSU Spartans in full pads. Making the drive down from Traverse City to watch practice was legendary Spartan Shane Bullough and his son Byron. Joining them on the sidelines was legendary coach and NFL ICON Hank Bullough who is Byron’s grandfather and Shane’s dad. On the field was stud MLB Max Bullough and true freshman LB Riley Bullough.

After practice Mark Dantonio praised Riley for his effort so far this summer and he even mentioned that he is one player who may not redshirt. Needless to say, it was a good day to be the family that in 2010 Spartan Nation Magazine called, “The First Family of Spartan Football.” It got better.

Shortly after practice, Mark Dantonio extended an offer to Byron to come to Michigan State and become a great Spartan LB for the 2014 recruiting class. He was ecstatic. He told Spartan Nation about that moment, “I was in a great mood, it was awesome. It was a full on definite surprise. Both me and my dad were shocked. That was definitely my thinking.  I wanted to be a Spartan my entire life. There is no need to rack up any offers. What counts is what you do in college not how highly recruited you are. I didn’t have to wait for a bunch of offers, because I got THE offer.”

Byron isn’t even a high school junior yet, but he is already 6’1” and weighs 210#. “Weight won’t be an issue at all. Coach Dantonio said he wants me to come in and play linebacker.”

Some young men run from expectations and high standards. That isn’t the Bullough way. His family has deep roots and no matter what the decade, when Spartan Football has been successful, it has been with Bulloughs as a part of it.

Byron told me, “It is definitely an honor to carry on the tradition of my family at Michigan State. I know all about what the program is about and what the University is about and of course my family name as a Bullough and that comes with a lot of responsibility too. I have always been a Spartan and wanted to be one and I know if I got THE offer I was going to take it.”

Besides being chiseled pieces of granite and top flight football players, the Bulloughs have never been accused of being followers. Byron is no different. Does he plan on starting to be a recruiter for the 2014 class? “Yes definitely. I am getting ahold of Drake Harris (2014 WR Commit) right now. Kiy Hester (Wayne, NJ, ATH), he was there when I was there (Wednesday). I am going to try to become a recruiter right now.”
