Matt Trannon’s draft status isn't looking good!

Going into the combine it was assumed among many of the scouts and NFL people that I talked to and know that the Spartan Nation’s Matt Trannon should have played basketball again, but that with a good work out he would be a first day (round three presumably) draft pick.

Â
When I got back from the combine I told you that he did not have a good workout and the scouts and NFL spoke even louder that he should have played basketball. Then came the emails from the Spartan Nation telling me how I was just holding the company line and just trying to kiss up with Izzo. I guess telling the truth wasn’t popular.

Â
Well brace yourself again. According to sources with NFL teams and at MSU, Trannon hurt himself even more after pro day at MSU. Trannon was two hours late, and his workout was far from impressive.

Â
The impression that I am getting from NFL people is that he has now fallen to free agent status and in their opinion will not get drafted at all. One NFL scout told me on Monday: “It is really sad. I think he has the physical ability, but I am not sure football is real important to him. You can get a lot of mediocre wide receivers in the draft.”

Â
It is common perception amongst people in the NFL that make the call on draft picks that I have spoken with that he should have played basketball and that he is no longer on their draft board. I certainly wish Matt all the love in the world. I root for Spartans and I hope if the NFL is a dream that it works. I just hate to see someone drop. If he isn’t in love with football then I certainly can’t blame him. At the next level, things aren’t free and I hope he is getting that message.
