Michigan State’s Elijah Collins on Walker Award Watch List

Spartan running back Elijah Collins has been named to the Doak Walker Award watch list.

Last year, redshirt sophomore Elijah Collins did more than enough to become the starting running back for Michigan State, a job he should have moving forward.

Wednesday afternoon, the Doak Walker Award watch list was revealed, which is given to the best running back in college football annually.

The Spartan tailback was one of 76 players on the watch list, along with fellow Big Ten running backs Journey Brown (PSU), Noah Cain (PSU), Stevie Scott (Indiana), Tyler Goodson (Iowa), and Mekhi Sargent (Iowa).

As the lead back in 2019, Collins carried the ball 222 times for 988 yards and five scores. Additionally, he caught 15 passes for 99 yards.

When his position coach, William Peagler was asked about him in April, he said, "He's a great kid, that's the first thing that stands out to me about him is he's a phenomenal kid, and he works his butt off.”

“When kids work their butt off, and they have talent, good things are going to happen, and I think he's a perfect example of that. As far as his development, I'm hoping to continue that development, and I do think there are some things that he can improve on. As far as the player he is right now; he's exactly where he needs to be and want to keep pushing to get a little bit better."
