Michigan State Football Recruiting Wrap-Up

We take our weekly deep-dive into the Michigan State Spartan football recruiting warp-up.

While Michigan State landed 12 commitments for the 2021 class over just five weeks, the last two weeks have been a bit quieter on the recruiting trail as the Spartans went without a commitment for the second straight week.

But it was also a slower week than usual in terms of extending offers for the Spartans as they offered just ten players this week, the fewest since the first weeks following head coach Mel Tucker’s hiring.

Of the 10 offers extended, there were no offers extended to the class of 2021. There were five offers made to players in the 2022 class, four to the 2023 class, and the first reported offer to a player in the class of 2024. The only state where Michigan State extended multiple offers was Georgia while spreading out the rest of the offers across eight other states.

Offers:

Midlothian (VA) Clover Hill 2022 DE Bryson Jennings

A 6-foot-6, 215-pound defensive end who racked up 24 sacks a season ago, Jennings has already proven to be an elite pass rusher off the edge and was offered by the Spartans on Monday. Jennings also holds offers from East Carolina, Michigan, South Carolina, and Virginia.

St. Louis (MO) DeSmet 2023 TE Mac Markway

One of the top tight ends in the 2023 class, Markway, is a significant time threat in the passing game and has an impressive list of offers already. Listed at 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, Markway has offers from Alabama, Iowa, Florida, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Miami (FL), Michigan, Missouri, Texas A&M, West Virginia, and received his most recent offer from Michigan State on Monday.

Danvers (MA) St. John’s Prep 2023 ATH Joenel Aguero

Aguero already has a handful of Power 5 offers and received an offer from Michigan State this week. In addition to his Michigan State offer, Aguero (6-foot, 170 pounds) offers from Michigan, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Tennessee.

Alabaster (AL) Thompson 2023 DE Peter Woods

One of the top 2023 players in the country, Woods, is an impressive defensive end with quite the list of offers already and added Michigan State to his list on Monday. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, LSU, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and USC have all offered as well.

Hoschton (GA) Mill Creek 2023 DB Caleb Downs

A 5-foot-11, 180-pound safety that has had a busy month of May on the recruiting trail, Downs is trending towards being one of the most sought after defensive backs in the 2023 class and added a Michigan State offer on Tuesday. Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, North Carolina State, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Kent State have also offered.

Melissa (TX) 2024 ATH Kennedy Brantley

The first 2024 offer that Michigan State has extended under Mel Tucker and his staff, Brantley, was also offered by Tucker’s staff at Colorado back in November. Michigan State and Colorado are his only reported offers at this time.

Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman 2022 S Zion Branch

One of the most coveted safeties in the 2022 class with more than 20 offers, Branch is a 6-foot-2½, 190-pound safety that is a big-time playmaker in the secondary. Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and most recently, Michigan State has offered.

Haverford (PA) 2022 WR Kevin Thomas

A 6-foot-3, 185-pound receiver that is capable of stretching the field with his speed and is also a serious mismatch for opposing defenses because of his size, Thomas picked up an offer from the Spartans on Tuesday. Bowling Green, Nebraska, Syracuse, and West Virginia also have extended offers.

Suwanee (GA) Collins Hill 2022 QB Sam Horn

A strong-armed 6-foot-3, 180-pound signal-caller that can make several different throws and is capable of playing with his feet, Horn has seen his recruitment pick up this month and added Michigan State to his list of offers on Thursday. Cincinnati, Missouri, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia are also offered.

New Orleans (LA) Edna Karr 2022 WR Aaron Anderson

A 5-foot-10, 175-pound receiver with exceptional speed and athleticism that allows him to be useful in the slot or out wide, Anderson has received a handful of Power 5 offers since the start of the calendar year and received an offer from the Spartans on Friday. Anderson also holds offers from Arkansas, Colorado, Kentucky, Virginia, and USC.
