Defensive Coordinator Scottie Hazelton gives minor update on LB Darius Snow

In this story:
As most Michigan State fans know by now, head coach Mel Tucker and his staff keep injury information pretty close to the chest.
Such is the case with redshirt junior linebacker Darius Snow, who suffered a major leg injury in last year's season-opener against Western Michigan and has been sidelined ever since. At Big Ten Media Days, Tucker said Snow has gone through a "long-term rehab" and the head coach was uncertain when the linebacker could return to the field.
MSU defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton, Snow's position coach, was asked for an update earlier this week and provided a little insight into what Snow has been doing in fall camp.
"He's doing pretty good," Hazelton said. "He's out there, he's able to do some drills. He's not quite ready yet but, you know, that's an injury question for the boss. But, he's out there, he's working with us, he's moving around and he's doing some of those stuff. So, we're excited to get him back as soon as we can."
While this isn't much insight into Snow's status, nor does it provide a timetable for a potential return, it's good to hear that the redshirt junior has been able to at least participate in drill work this fall. Whether that work includes any form of contact and/or tackling is unknown.
Snow suffered a major injury to his right leg during kick return coverage when he was accidently hit low by teammate Chester Kimbrough, which ended Snow's 2022 season less than two quarters into the year.
"He had a significant injury, and he’s been battling," Tucker said at media days. “You guys know him. He’s a sharp kid, he’s very determined, he loves football and he’s been battling hard to get back and it’s going to take a while. Hopefully, we’ll get to see him more in fall camp, and then we’ll assess him at that point.”
As mentioned above, Tucker was non-committal on when he believes Snow will be able to return to action.
“I don’t have an expectation yet [on when Snow will be back]," Tucker said. "Like I said, we have to wait until camp starts to see where he is. Injuries, you know, sometimes they’re just day to day. Guys come back sometimes sooner than you expect, sometimes it takes a little bit longer. I know this, if anyone can make it back it’s him.”
