Michigan State Hosts 5-star Cornerback On Surprise Visit

In this story:
A relatively quiet week on the recruiting trail took a surprising turn on Wednesday, as Mel Tucker and Michigan State football hosted five-star Venice (Fla.) cornerback Charles Lester III on a surprise unofficial visit.
Lester took to Twitter to share pictures of his visit, which included some one-on-one time with Tucker. The Florida native was in East Lansing throughout Wednesday, and stayed on campus overnight.

Lester hails from the same high school as current Michigan State cornerback Charles Brantley, and the five-star corner is also a former teammate of current MSU wide receiver Jaron Glover. Both Brantley and Glover were seen on campus with Lester, and it appears the pair of Spartans are helping Tucker and cornerbacks coach Jim Salgado at least make Michigan State a viable option for the five-star.
Getting Lester on campus is a nice development for MSU's coaching staff — one that was entirely unexpected by anyone outside of the program. With that said, Tucker and Co. have a lot of ground to make up in a short amount of time here. Lester recently announced a commitment date of July 29, and his 'Top 4' schools include Florida State, Alabama, Georgia and Colorado.
Interestingly, Lester has cancelled an official visit to Georgia that was previously scheduled for this upcoming weekend. Could the five-star be staying north and taking an official visit to Michigan State instead? That's pure speculation, but the cancellation of his visit to Athens does lend itself to the possibility.
due to personal issues i will not take an OV to University of Georgia this weekend! still go Dawgs🐶!

Lester is considered the No. 18 overall prospect, No. 2 cornerback and No. 4 player from the state of Florida, according to 247Sports' Composite rankings. There are currently five "crystal ball" predictions in favor of the home-state Seminoles. Lester is most-recently coming off an official visit to Florida State, and he has taken previous OVs this month to Alabama (June 2) and Colorado (June 9).
Michigan State is set to host its biggest recruiting weekend of the month this weekend, as five-star defensive lineman David Stone, four-star interior offensive lineman DeAndre Carter, four-star running back Jason Brown and four-star wide receiver Nick Marsh are expected to be on campus, among others. Perhaps Lester will join that rich crop of talent in East Lansing as well.
