It is very clear that the next MSU coach will be able to bring in his own staff, and should have that right. That said I have spent significant time talking to those they have coached and coached against and worked with to say that these four should get a good look at staying. JLS chose to his own demise in my opinion to stick with his guys and these four, clearly were not “his guys” and they should not bear the brunt of this MSU football’s utter failure.

 

1. Derrick Jackson is a brilliant coach and many of his players thought he was the only bright spot on the defense. He is a great coach, hard nosed and a disciplinarian. He certainly was the bright spot on the defensive side of the ball and in my opinion clearly was the brightest coach on the defensive staff who should have been the DC. If Jackson had been the DC I certainly think that this season would have been very different. Loved but most of all respected among the defense he is a rising star and clearly has a bright future in the coaching business. http://msuspartans.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/jackson_derrick00.html
2. Dan Enos is not only a solid member of the Spartan Nation having been a QB here he is also a great coach. Hired when JLS was “told” to get a Spartan on his anemic staff he was a great choice and coach. Clearly having him on the staff is a great thing. His ability to calm players and motivate them has been very well talked about and could have helped Smith if he would have relied on him more. http://msuspartans.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/enos_dan00.html
3. Ben Sirmans has done a great job at MSU. His coaching of the RB position has been great and is respected as a no nonsense kind of guy. Like the others he should have been relied more on by Smith and things may have been different. Like the others on the list he was not a “JLS” guy and that hurt MSU, as he was not given the ability to influence as much as he should have been in both my opinion and others to whom I have spoken close to the situation. http://msuspartans.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/sirmans_ben00.html
4. Jeff Stoutland is a great recruiter. Make no mistake that the O line coach is huge and he may not get to keep that job, but he has more then proven himself a tireless recruiter and has done a very decent job with that. Let me say this he wasn’t a “JLS” guy. http://msuspartans.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/stoutland_jeff00.html

Sadly these four coaches where not JLS guys and their influence was down played in my opinion and the opinions of others I spoke to. JLS chose to stick with his guys and you now see that he made the wrong choice. Be careful however Spartan Nation to judge these four when they are not the ones who deserve the wrath for a season and really three years of wasted MSU football.
