MSU not willing to let Davis “use†them
I am so proud of MSU. They could be more proud of a PR move that would hush the Spartan Nation but that isn’t the way “President Simon†works. “She loves MSU and won’t make a move in order to impress people that won’t work†according to my sources who are involved in the search.
Davis wants a contract with virtually no buy out that would allow him to jump to another school (college or pro) at his own desire. For critics that may say that MSU is making a mistake I disagree. They aren’t being unreasonable and they are willing to pay the big dollars. In turn asking for someone that will be here at least three years is far from unrealistic. They are not dumb and they recognize that people leave, but looking for what they are asking and willing to pay is in no way unreasonable and I support them.
UNC is willing to pay and give Davis that “free reign†according to a source involved in the process at UNC because they need the PR push to get the dollars rolling in to build a program. He went on to say, “we would love for Butch to be here twenty years but we aren’t stupid. We know he may go but getting him will set the money and the process of building a program moving forward and that will help us with his replacement. We don’t have a lot down yonder MSU is farther ahead so it is something he has to think about. I think that will help us get him.â€
The deal is not “done†according to my UNC source but it is close. MSU did the right thing, they made a huge push and let him know that money wasn’t a hindrance but the difference of the two programs needs may be what sways Davis the Tar Heels!
Davis is telling people close to him that he plans to "take it easy and wait" but that is simply a ploy to improve and get a better deal. MSU wants to dance and they aren't playing. Good for them.
