On being drafted by the Bears:
“It’s feels great to be a Chicago Bear, to be going to a great city and a great team with a good coach and a couple other really good tight ends. I am just really excited about the opportunity.”

On being on the board as late as the fifth round:
“I was surprised, before I was hearing that I was supposed to be a second or third round pick. For me, I was up there for a while and it made it a little tense for me, but I ended up going to a good place and somewhere where I can feel that I can learn at the next level.”

On an incident that allowed his draft stock to fall:
“I think that was pretty much the whole reason for all of that. I couldn’t really figure anything else because there wasn’t anything that I did between the end of the season and now.”

“I think I just explained it to teams by just telling them what happened and where I was at and that it is really just all the way behind me, got off probation last month and just ready to play football and maturing as a person and hopefully have a great career in the NFL.”

On problems with the previous coaching staff at Michigan State:
“Not that I know of, I didn’t really have a great relationship with the previous coaching staff, and I don’t think that a lot of people did either, but I don’t think there was any bad blood or anything like that. I played hard and we weren’t just very successful as a team with the previous coaching staff, but I feel very close to Coach Dantonio and I still talk to my position coach on a weekly basis and have a really close relationship that I want to carry over to being similar with my next coaching staff.”

On coming in to a team with a good tight end unit:
“I think definitely there is some good competition out there, just got to work hard and try my best and help the team in any way I can. I have no problem going to play defense if that is what need be. I believe I can bring an explosive game to the passing game and catch balls and also be a very efficient blocker in the running game. So anything from playing defense to run blocking, I am ready for it all.”

On being versatile:
“I played quite a bit of defense, especially at the bowl game and even got to play a little D-tackle at the bowl game, so for me, its just another extension of the game, it’s no different from playing special teams. Anything to help out the team, and I actually do quite enjoy playing defense.”

On blocking:
“I feel I need to make my mark as a blocker and a pass catcher, just to show how well I can do at the next level and just to show to the coaches that they took a good pick and that I am going to be a good player for a long time. For me, I want to establish myself every way possible.”

On red zone production:
“The red zone, that is where I am most productive at, being as tall as I am. Especially with the tendency to run the ball once you get inside the 20, just with play action and a lot of things like that are good for me and put me on one-on-one coverage with safeties or linebackers and I feel very comfortable in situations like that.”

On his hands:
“I feel extremely confident in my hands, catching a pass, any type of pass that there is. I had a lot of really good catches this year, jumping, diving. I like to be that player on third down that they call my number.”
